Every year, after the November 1 deadline, many students are done applying, and many are still hitting SUBMIT through January 1 & beyond. Wherever you fall in that mix, you want to start thinking about post-application strategies.
My article last year is still very current/relevant – check it out here. AND…I wanted to share some additional tips with you and remind you of some important ones!
- Make sure your application is COMPLETE! I know getting to the finish line can feel grueling at times, but…after you hit SEND, make sure all that work pays you back! Most colleges give you an application portal where you can log in to track progress. Make sure your rec letters, test scores, mid-year transcripts (if required), etc., are ALL received on time. A few years ago, I heard about a student who applied ED; school didn’t send transcript on time; student was moved to regular decision round. That’s avoidable – double-check that everything is where it needs to be!
- Interviews/Merit Aid – Availability & requirement to “get” vary by school. Research & ask for it. Your request may be as simple as a quick form or as involved as additional essays.
- Emailing admissions – Ask something thoughtful/new, and keep them updated if something CHANGES in your application – good OR bad! YOU are the reporter of your story, so take charge & tell it how you want it to be told!
Again, check out last year’s article with LOTS of helpful post-application tips.
